At a meeting last week, the message from BERR’s side of the table was that the consultation on Zero Carbon (originally planned for summer, then autumn) is now unlikely to come out until 2009. That’s going to give industry at most 6 years to tool up to delivering zero carbon. Given that ministers are long past the point of no return on this, it’s extraordinary that by delaying this consultation they’re making things even harder for themselves and for developers.

A report in Building at the start of November claimed that a definition for ‘zero carbon’ was to be released “within weeks”.
Is there any date given yet for when this definition will be released?
I am a part time student (working as a QS) and my dissertation is going to be on the zero carbon definition (if released in time)!
Any ideas when it will be released will be much appreciated as I will need to start thinking of my fall back option for my dissertation should the definition not be released in time.
Many thanks
My understanding is that the consultation isn’t even out yet so I think a definition is still some way off. Might be worth calling the CLG and asking them. Let me know if you find anything out.
Consultation published today (17/12/08). See link here http://carbonlimited.org/2008/12/17/zero-carbon-consultation-published/
